He churns out books. Sure, that isn’t so unusual.
But he has a daily newsletter which is quite long, and has plenty of research.
And a podcast.
And always on the road.
How?
He treats writing as a job, with daily targets (for books, the number of words as a goal). Nick Cave is like that, he literally writes songs in an office. But also, a nifty trick – he also stops writing in the middle of a sentence so the next day starts with a few “easy” words, which reduces friction and keeps him moving.
Next, he divorces feelings from the work – he has determined how you are feeling, and feeling about yourself that day, can influence how you feel about the quality of the work. He simply does it, absent of feelings. The opposite of the tortured artist.
And finally, he has somehow managed a powerful skill – he can write anywhere, even write in extremely sub‑optimal environments: cramped airplane seats, airport floors, subway rides, streets, and noisy cafés, often while juggling startup work or activist travel.
