There is way of paying more consideration to the major things we buy, and times we like to remember – combine them.
Which of these feel better:
- My Dad bought me this car when I was in my late teens
- My Dad bought me this car to celebrate getting my first job
- We went to Greece for a holiday
- We went to Greece for our honeymoon
It also means more thought and effort is probably put into the purchase (for better results) because it is more meaningful.
I once spent a lot of money on a high-end leather jacket, with a friend who did the same thing. I remember the occasion, but only because it was a shared experience. We also gave each other advice.
