Not something I usually share here but writing stuff down helps me make sense of things. Having to explain myself…
Labor have to go. Ideologically I have mostly voted Labor for the local MP, but I have always lived in Labor safe seats anyway. So, meh. Until now. In Ripon It is now Labor but the prior MP was Liberal.
The Big Build is wonderful in terms of giving us infrastructure good for 50 years. America did this in the 50s and 60s and not much since. But for all the financial pain it is causing the state, the reason for it is evasive. Yes, it is to cope with a huge influx of immigrants, but they say it like it is unavoidable.
The corruption is next level. The pork-barreling terrible. The new Labor leader has decided that the airport rail system will end in East Keilor, a nothing suburb, because that is his electorate and for no other good reason. Their union ties have become problematic. They are failing terribly with health – not enough funding for hospitals to operate to capacity – what government does that?
And the tobacco fiasco. It took them years and years and years to do implement laws and systems other states did long ago. So we have had all the arsons.
And African teen crime. The solution is simple. Supposedly they are trialling it but meanwhile society is suffering. It being ankle monitors for kids on bail. So simple, such a perfect solution.
So, Who To Vote For?
One Nation are only good for immigration policy and that is federal, so no. They’ll get enough support without me.
Liberal and Nationals are both fielding candidates which is daft, and I have never voted for either and never will.
Greens – my daughter is very good friends with the candidate’s daughter. And I want the Greens to be the new Democrats with some balance of power roles. So this is my pick!
And he is also the only male running, so presumably that helps him. Coming second sounds feasible in a 5-way contest.
Socialists, nope, no point. No matter how much of a lefty I am.
The state outcome I want, that has any possibility, it the Coalition for one term, and without a majority. They will need to side with One Nation to get things done, which will be fun to watch, and maybe, just maybe, they side with the Greens on some things. Strange bedfellows!
