As we know, it is a very common storyline for the family of the hero to be put at risk. This is a twist on that. The hero was a sperm donor when younger and has never cared to trace his offspring. But his foil…
The enemy got the hero drunk (our hero has OCD and addiction issues) hoping for one thing, but got another, an accidental sharing of his sperm donation past. A DNA sample was taken and the enemy created profiles on the ancestry sites… and found a number of the children.
Our hero deduces enough of that, does the same ancestry thing, finds the offspring, and takes it upon himself to introduce himself and at the same time tell them they are in danger.
Each episode (this is a TV show idea…) starts with meeting one of them, or, if they refuse, spying on them. They each react differently, of course. Drama!
The bad guy is one step ahead, he was planning this years ago. He is already somehow in the lives of each kid.
Our hero ends up in the doldrums – waiting for something to happen, doing everything to protect, and yet nothing happens.
Years go by. Nothing happens. Then it all happens. Every kid is targeted in a different way, at the same time, and the hero is informed. One is kidnapped. One is on a bus in Cambodia. One is surrounded by snipers.

Turns out the bad guy is the sibling of the hero, both were adopted out, the bad guy has a thing about how kids should be born, religious… So he is murdering his own nephews and nieces.
Hero ends up saving the one kid he bonded with the most.
