The Rapid Rise of the Rook

Or crows…

In evolution theory is the idea of punctuated equilibrium, in which new scenarios can cause rapid evolution.

When considering which species will end up challenging the dominance of humans, we naturally consider the smartest – apes, dolphins and whales, elephants, crows.

Of those, the species that is most commonly in and about evolving human places (cities) are crows.

They have already evolved what they eat, and how they act is changing quite rapidly.

They have the ability to mimic human speech, which effectively means they could talk to us.

Flying is a huge advantage.

I reckon within 100 years crows will be working with us, not unlike dogs and horses, but also talking to use and therefore negotiating terms.

It will be quite wonderful, and humbling.
