I like birds, I pay attention to them, I say hi to them.
In the last few weeks I have had three situations where birds are acting in ways I have never seen before. Either it is just random, or something is up, and if so it might take experts years to notice.
- The ducks where I live have started to sit in the shade sometimes. I have never noticed this before, from 12 years of being here
- This morning, on a grass verge on the side of the road, I saw a dozen crows and a dozen seagulls, hanging out, intermingled
- I saw two magpies strutting around in a city street, acting like they were guarding something. I watched them for 5 minutes, and they were patrolling a radius of about 15 metres. I went to the centre of it and found a terracotta plate with birdseed on it. That they were guarding it struck me as odd.
- NEW – pigeons on the local road are sometimes – in groups – not getting out of the way of cars.
