Several hundred alien entities, “The Brutes”, arrived in the last 24 hours, at night local time, evenly distributed across the land masses of Earth. The distribution and timing assure us that this was calculated and co-ordinated. Based on initial field reports and satellite readings we are certain that they are extra-terrestrial.
All interactions and responses need to be filed with us, in realtime, according to the protocols attached. Systems are in place and every country has trained personnel, in case this moment ever came.
DO NOT ENGAGE. Collateral damage is to be prioritised over engagement at this stage. Be ready to engage with all available resources.

Several hundred alien entities, “The Brutes”, fell to Earth under the cover of darkness, during the New Moon, and I saw one. It might have been one of the first, as I made the earliest report, the first description, and the nickname that has stuck quickly.
I am Rick Owen, forest ranger, mushroom enthusiast, father of three. I was driving home from the airport, flew in on the last flight. It was 2am as I approached home and I saw a glowing orb in the sky ahead of me. A drone, I figured, which made it illegal and in my jurisdiction, so I headed towards it as best I could. The road followed the edge of the forest and what I figured to be a drone landed just inside the lines of trees, glowing enough for me to spot it from the roadside, where I parked.
I’m not fearful of drones of course, but this was unusual and I don’t care for people participating in the out-of-the-ordinary, so I took my revolver with me, and my big flashlight. The undergrowth was light and I was upon it in no time, and it wasn’t any drone I know of.
12 feet high and wide, it sat there on the ground, luminous, a solid bubble, organic, pulsating. Something was inside it, a shadow, twisting and turning. For want of a better word it was fidgeting, organising. There was a whirring noise.
I took cover behind a tree. I had not used my flashlight yet, the orb gave off enough light to illuminate a car park. Nothing indicated that “it” had noticed me. I watched and waited.
Minutes later a vertical beam of red light, a laser I guess, cut through the far side of the orb and set some trees on fire. It only operated for a moment, and then “it” seemed to exit – the shadow within the orb was disappearing and it made a lot of noise. Stomping and grunting.
It was stupid, I guess, but I stepped carefully to the right so that I could see it, and then I did. 8 feet high by my reckoning, relative to where the trees were trimmed to. And solid, like a Yeti wearing a couple of puffer jackets. It was human shaped I guess – there was a head, torso, and massive legs, articulated more than ours. I thought that it had no arms, but then one unfolded and drilled a hole into a pine tree. It was deliberate and efficient, and after two seconds it had retracted. There was some movement around the top of its head, and that whirring noise again, but it otherwise did nothing for a short while, then started walking again, like it knew where it was going.
I filmed all of this of course, and when it was out of sight, over the ridge, I got out of there.
