Water and I

  • I don’t remember being bathed as a child, but based on my own experiences as a parent, I presume that I was not a fan of having my hair washed.
  • I was a Sea Scout but we rarely went out on the very heavy wooden boats with sails. Yacht is too much of a compliment. When we did go out I was a little bit exhilarated and a whole lot terrified.
  • I had to do swimming at school, of course. I’ll never forget walking along the side of the pool and noticing that I was moving faster than swimmers in a race.
  • Ireland to France on a ferry. Older school kids having a drinking game that was basically neck a beer and run a lap of the deck. Every single one of them threw up.
  • I think houseboats are brilliant but I doubt I could have a restful sleep on one.
  • I like watering the garden – my thoughts fade away.
  • Meanwhile my daily shower (and walks) provide my best insights and revelations and plans.
  • Life jackets on planes are stupid

I am about to, by choice, sleep on a boat for 14 days straight. Thankfully the riverbank is close enough to swim to. I am a landlubber.
