Like many people, if I won Lotto I’d like to own a pub / bar /restaurant.
I’d be terrible at it in terms of management, or making a profit, hence Lotto.
I’ve written about Temple of Food elsewhere – a chain where most things on the menu are the same, but some things aren’t, and there are 4 menus that fit the pagan seasons precisely.
Today I am thinking of the Back Bar – sometimes in AU/NZ the name for a boot bar or public bar in old-fashioned pubs. Where there’s no dress code, and men stand at high tables drinking longnecks.
My Back Bar is back in time. Nothing modern at all. No definitive cut-off point in history, but I’d say 80s and earlier.
- Cash only
- CTR TVs playing VHS shows/movies
- Pool tables (of course)
- A pinball machine, but no video games
- The furniture is of course old
- Heavy old glassware
- No drink brands that didn’t exist 30 years ago
- Anyone caught using modern technology – smart watches/phones is asked to leave
- Food won’t be what was fashionable in the 70s, but rather things that existed then and are popular now, like ribs, burgers, wings
Obviously we can’t have incandescent light bulbs, so we would need something that looks like it. There would be some safety tech that might be required. But, no security cameras!
Not only is it a trip back into time, but, without announcing it, it is a place to be anonymous.
